rolling up the rim...pt 2

| 4 Comments | No TrackBacks

So 25 cups of coffee and a couple of sore thumbs later - I'm the proud winner of (drumroll please) a muffin of my choice. Yee-freakin'-haw! Do I sound a little bit sour? Hmmmm? Meanwhile, D has been winning all kinds of stuff (donuts, coffees, cookies...sheeesh.) Meh - whatever; I would've had the coffee anyway so a free muffin is just a bonus, I guess. Well, maybe the next cup will be the plasma TV or honkin' big truck...

Put this in your pocket and keep it handy! Roger Johansson (456 Berea Street) has a great list of CSS Tips and Tricks that you'll want to become familiar with. Can't wait for Part 2.

reconnecting...pt 4

Reconnected? Not quite sure of that yet. But over the weekend I hit a sweet spot in fencing by coming in 3rd in the Open Mixed Foil category at the UNB Shield. Open Mixed simply means open to any age catgeory and the mixed refers to men and women competing together. Getting to the finals in the Atlantic League means fencing a pool round-robin (usually a minimum of 6 bouts), then winning usually 2 15-hit direct elimination bouts to get into the Super 8 pool (top 8 fencers) which means 7 really tough bouts. To even hope to get to the medal rounds you usually have to win a minimum of 3 of these bouts. It's a tough road. The women also get to fence a separate Women's DE - mainly to provide the opportunity for more fencing since the population of women fencers is so low around here. So after the Super 8 pool, I fenced in the Women's DE and ended up taking 1st place in the Open Women's Foil category :) 2 medals -la!Getting the hardware is fun but right now it's more important to me to really improve my fencing technically. I have a lot of bad habits to unlearn. (And if it weren't raining in almost biblical proportions tonight I'd be at the club doing drills! - hey, are we going to need an ark soon?)

So I would say I've reconnected with the sport, but I'm still not sure if I'm a hundred percent recommitted yet. I plan on doing at least one more tournament this season - the NB Provincials and then we'll see about setting some goals for the next season.

This is Florian and me fencing in the Open Mixed Foil semifinal.

the redesign...

| 3 Comments | No TrackBacks

I've finally made this a goal on my 43 things list - to redesign this site (and to have it done by the end of the month). I mean this is getting seriously embarassing - my blogroll is growing almost daily and I've yet to put the list up - and there are so many interesting blogs out there. Anyway, all that will be rectified in version 2.
I've actually got most of the template done - just not quite satisfied with it quite yet.

Constantine ...

D and I went to see Constantine on Friday night. Although Keanu Reeves simply cannot act the movie was pretty good. I liked the story treatment, the special effects, the story concept - and although I am a fan of comics/graphic novels, Hellblazer is one I hadn't read before.

So what was up with Keanu? It took him until practically the end of the movie before being able to instill a bit of "believable" feeling into his character. Because his character is the principal role it made the movie a bit hard to watch however, the supporting actors made up for the lack. I haven't decided who my favorite character is yet...either Balthazar (portrayed by Gavin Rossdale) or the ultracool Midnite (Djimon Hounsou). And Shia LaBeouf was excellent as Chas the sidekick.

I think I might seek out the comic...

Overall enjoyable - I give it 4 stars out of 5.
